Tips to select the right food for a French Bulldog

• As the French Bulldog is a muscular breed, their diet should have enough protein to keep their muscles strong. Meat-based options like chicken, turkey, fish, and lean beef are great choices. Since Frenchies are prone to allergies, avoid wheat, corn, and soy.
• Choose a high-quality dry food that meets their nutritional needs. Wet food can also be added in small amounts, for variety. Adding vegetables like carrots, sweet potatoes, and green beans gives them vitamins and minerals for their health.
• French Bulldogs need fiber-rich foods to help with digestion. Fruits like apples, blueberries, and bananas offer natural antioxidants without too much sugar. Always remove seeds and cores before feeding fruit to small breeds.
• Omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids are important for keeping their skin healthy and their coat shiny. These can also come from fish oil or flaxseed.
• Since Frenchies can have sensitive stomachs, introduce new foods slowly and watch for any bad reactions.
• Before giving your French Bulldog any new food, double-check if it’s safe. When in doubt, ask your vet!
• Foods to Avoid for French Bulldogs
• Coffee / Tea
• Some foods can make your French Bulldog sick or cause allergies. It's important to know what to keep them away from.
• Avoid fried and oily foods. These are hard to digest and can lead to weight gain, heart problems, and upset stomachs.
• Stay away from foods with artificial flavors, colors, and preservatives. They can cause allergies, itching, and long-term health issues. As Frenchies are prone to allergies so check the ingredients in dog food before buying it.
• Never give your French Bulldog chocolate, grapes, raisins, garlic, or onions. These can cause poisoning, kidney failure, and even death. Even a small amount can be dangerous.
• Be careful with dairy. Many French Bulldogs are lactose intolerant. Milk, cheese, and ice cream can lead to bloating, diarrhea, and stomach pain. If you are thinking of giving them curd or yogurt, clear it with your vet first.
• Raw eggs, fish, or meat should be given with caution. If not prepared properly, they can carry harmful bacteria like salmonella, which can make your dog very sick. Always cook these foods before giving them to your Frenchie.
• If you're ever unsure about what type of food to give your pet, ask your vet before feeding it to your dog.
• French Bulldogs are playful but not very energetic. They need short daily walks and playtime. Since they have flat faces, they can struggle to breathe, especially in hot weather. Avoid over-exercising them, and always provide fresh water. Because they love to be couch potatoes, they can gain weight easily. This leads to joint problems, breathing issues, and heart disease.
• As recommended by the AAFCO, French Bulldogs need a well-balanced diet. Adult Frenchies should eat two meals a day. Puppies grow fast and need 3-4 meals daily to support their development.
• Their food should include the right amounts of protein, healthy fats, vitamins, and minerals. Frenchies are prone to food allergies, so watch for itching, upset stomachs, or ear infections. Some may need a special diet.
• Consult your veterinarian to create a proper meal plan for your Frenchie at every life stage—puppy, adult, and senior. With good care and proper nutrition, French Bulldogs can live up to 12 years.

Grooming Routine

• French Bulldogs have a short, smooth coat that is easy to maintain. However, they still need regular grooming to stay clean and healthy.
• Brushing: Even though they don’t shed as much as some other breeds, Frenchies still shed. Brushing once or twice a week helps remove loose hair and keeps their coat shiny. A soft-bristle brush or grooming mitt works best.
• Bathing: French Bulldogs don’t need frequent baths—once a month is enough. Too many baths can dry out their skin. Use a mild, dog-friendly shampoo to keep their coat and skin healthy.
• Wrinkle Care: Their facial folds and skin wrinkles can trap dirt and moisture, leading to infections. Clean these areas with a damp cloth or pet-safe wipes at least a few times a week. Dry thoroughly to prevent irritation.
• Ear Cleaning: Frenchies have large, open ears that can collect dirt. Clean their ears weekly with a vet-approved ear cleaner. Watch for redness, bad odors or excessive scratching.
• Nail Trimming: Their nails grow fast and can become painful if too long. Trim their nails every few weeks to prevent discomfort and injuries. If you hear their nails clicking on the floor, it’s time for a trim.
• Dental Care: Dental hygiene is crucial. Brush their teeth several times a week with dog-safe toothpaste to prevent plaque, gum disease, and bad breath. Dental chews can also help.
